TRAINING SITES

Jackson Memorial Hospital

Jackson Memorial Hospital (JMH) serves as one of the main clinical sites for our training program. As the third largest teaching hospital in the United States, Jackson Memorial Hospital fosters an academic environment that supports the education and training of housestaff in an effort to continue producing excellent physicians. While rotating at this institution, housestaff are exposed to a wide range of endocrine conditions in the outpatient, inpatient and critical care settings. As the only county hospital serving Miami-Dade County, Jackson Memorial Hospital has over 1550 inpatient beds and allows clinicians the opportunity to provide care to the most undeserved populations. In so doing, our fellows not only have experience with a wide range of endocrine diseases,  but also a greater understanding of what it truly means to provide healthcare.

University of Miami Hospital

The University of Miami changed the face of modern health care in South Florida when it purchased Cedars Medical Center in late 2007. The 560-bed facility was renamed University of Miami Hospital and became the region’s first university-owned, multi-specialty, acute care hospital and the flagship facility of UHealth – University of Miami Health System.

Today at University of Miami Hospital, physicians on the faculty of the Miller School of Medicine partner with community physicians to plan and provide care, investigate new treatments still in the clinical research phase, and utilize the most advanced technologies available.

Miami VA Hospital

The Bruce W. Carter Veterans Administration Medical Center is located just a short walk away from Jackson memorial Hospital. It serves the veterans of three South Florida counties (Miami-Dade, Broward, and Monroe) and is also the tertiary referral center for the West Palm Beach VAMC. Diabetes Research Institute

The Diabetes Research Institute is a world leader in cure-focused research. As the largest and most comprehensive research center dedicated to curing diabetes, the DRI is aggressively working to develop a biological cure by restoring natural insulin production and normalizing blood sugar levels without imposing other risks. Our fellows participate actively in many research projects and a have a weekly clinic during second year during which they are exposed to a variety of complex diabetes and endocrine cases.

Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center

As a university-based cancer center, Sylvester physicians and scientists apply research breakthroughs from the laboratory to the patient’s bedside. Sylvester closely evaluates the effectiveness of new treatments, and shares clinical insights with laboratory investigators, leading to improvements that benefit patient care. This type of translational research is the cornerstone of our comprehensive cancer center, providing us the ability to accurately treat a wide range of cancers across 15 site diseases and from stage one to stage four. The endocrine tumors program includes dedicated multidisciplinary teams working together to provide cutting-edge therapies for thyroid cancer patients as well as expertise in treating patients with adrenal and pituitary tumors.
